Molly, who began her career in Edmonton, became a central figure in the Vancouver dance scene. Several years ago, she returned to Edmonton with her family and placed herself in the centre of the action here, in Edmonton. That means she is dancing full out with the likes of the Good Women Dance Collective! Her new dance, IN AND OUT OF DARK, features the dancing of a group of very fine local dance artists, Max Hanic, Alida Kendell, Marynia Fekecz-Mangan as well as Molly.
IN AND OUT OF DARK features very inventive dancing with vivid interpretations of macabre children's stories where fear may even become pleasurable! The result is magical!
in and out of dark is a new work by Molly McDermott, featuring 5 Edmonton-based artists. Inspired by macabre children’s stories, the work delves into surreal and nightmarish imagery. When we are afraid, it can sometimes feel pleasurable and other times it crosses a line into something more like fear. Fear has a heavy presence in our world, what if we approach this reality from a place of play?
With heightened proprioception, the dancers stretch time, and push their physicality through space alongside the expansive sound design performed live by Will Scott.
