BWDC January Update

Dear Friends,

The BWDC has a 45-year history of presenting and creating contemporary Canadian dance in Edmonton. 

When I began the Brian Webb Dance Company, how could I have possibly dreamed that the organization would enjoy so many years of public support from all three levels of government and from the private sector - individuals donating financially and as dedicated volunteers. The BWDC has always believed whole heartedly in the power of dance to communicate the values of the present moment. For decades, we have celebrated the adventure of the new.

A year and a half ago, the Edmonton Arts Council provided us the resources to begin a process of building sustainability for the future. This included a search for a new artistic director as we felt it was time for me to step aside to champion a fresh voice of curation. Ainsley Hillyard was becoming the new artistic director, but sadly she did not renew her contract for 2024. We wish Ainsley well as she builds her future as an artistic leader in the community.

Our dedicated Board of Directors and I as Artistic Director are working together in a most collaborative way to secure a healthy future for the BWDC. We continue to centre our values around inclusion, individuality, and artistic excellence. We believe strongly in community on three levels of participation - locally, regionally, and federally – and are proud to call Edmonton, Alberta, Canada our home. We are most humbled by the support all of you give us and thank you.

In a very short time, you will receive more information about our next presentation...the fascinating Metis dance artist, Jeanette Kotowich. Her dance - Kisiskâciwan - is riveting. We are excitedly working with her to engage both Edmonton's Indigenous community and the Deaf community. We really hope you will join us at the Roxy on 124 Street for this 'Adventure of the New!' You will also hear of our annual art auction… our 44th edition!

Once again, thank you for your support and encouragement. As we continue to celebrate our 46th season, we invite you to join us in our Adventure of the New!
