Francesca Lettieri

Artistic Co-Director | Compagnie ADARTE

Dancer, choreographer, and movement instructor, Francesca Lettieri has been the artistic co-director of Compagnie ADARTE since its founding. Her passion for dance was discovered at the age of 4, and while still very young she created a movement research laboratory through which she was able to develop a unique compositional technique. After receiving a law degree from the University of Siena and a Master in International Protection of Human Rights from the University of London (UCL), she decided to devote herself completely to dance.

She studied at the Accademia Isola Danza-La Biennale di Venezia where she had the opportunity to work with prominent dancers and choreographers, and meet individuals who would then go on to become notable figures in her career. These include Carolyn Carlson, an important creative collaborator, and David Zambrano who was influential during her personal pedagogical and choreographic research.

Throughout her career which spans over twenty years, Francesca’s choreographic research has expressed itself through a search for a non-formal language, which relies on an idea of dance linked to instinct and the unconscious substance of the body. Much of her artistic production is dedicated to the relationship between dance and music, resulting in a plethora of creative collaboration with musical groups and musicians, including the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and with important jazz and classical musicians Francesco Dillon, Ettore Bonafè, Silvia Bolognesi, Emanuele Parrini, Cristina Abati and Andrea Beninati.
