Fortier Danse Creations - SOLO 70
It is with real pleasure that BWDC welcomes Paul-Andre Fortier to Edmonton for one last performance. Yes, these up coming shows will be the very last performances by this amazing dance icon. He is one of the dance artists that put Montreal on the map when it comes to experimental dance. Whenever he has performed in Edmonton, he and his famous outside eye, Ginelle Chagnon, have made themselves part of our dance community. It's hard not to be engaged by their wit, commitment and willingness to go all the way in making contemporary dance the vital art form it is.
SOLO 70 premiered in Paris earlier this year to super reviews. Critics were unanimous in celebrating its originality. It was the toast of the FTA, Montreal's international festival of contemporary dance and theatre. Now, it comes to our community!
I know that you will be moved by the interpretive powers of this man. He commands the stage like no other. In SOLO 70, he is not alone. Joining him are the fantastic punk guitarist, Jaqui Gallant of LALALA fame, and actor Etienne Pilon. The three of them are magical.
I am very happy that Paul-Andre has chosen Edmonton for his final performances. It makes me recall the many times he has inspired me. I remember the performance where audiences traveled by bus to be part of his performance in the Masonic Hall, and then to the old CNR rail yard, which is now MacEwan University! Of course I can't forget his amazing collaborations with Betty Goodwin, and his wild performance with Rober Racine. They have all been outrageously strong events.
Don't miss this opportunity to see this powerful artist one last time. I guarantee you will be transfixed, jolted into the present time, and moved by his ability to reveal himself in dance.
I can't think of a better way to celebrate Canadian contemporary dance in its most vital context!
See you there!
