VISION & MISSION

Dance celebrates our aliveness in the moment. Dance is always about the dancing; the dancing that is taking place right before the audience. The dancing body feels its senses totally engaged and communicates this aliveness to the viewing public. The dance is not complete until it is received by the audience. This exchange between the dancer and the viewer is what makes contemporary dance alive in the here and now. That is why we say, ‘Without the dancing, there ain’t no dance!’

As a producer and presenter of contemporary dance, the Brian Webb Dance Company is a community player, forging paths between active doers [dance artists] and active viewers [audience members].

The BWDC is excited and inspired by the diversity of the Canadian dance community and how it beautifully reflects the pluralism that is Canada.

The BWDC builds its own productions through collaboration with dance artists and artists from other media.

Collaboration celebrates the democratic exchange of ideas to create something new.

Dancing is a performative act that embraces all aspects of dance, and of its potential intersections with other contemporary media.

The BWDC presents a diverse annual season of dance in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

We are inspired by dance that reflects a diverse range of possibility. Our seasons embrace the act of dancing by artists who reflect their own diversity.
